“I saw it on Facebook and then I saw bits and pieces on the TV and every time I looked at those photos on the Burrumbuttock Facebook page it gives me goosebumps,” Ms McDonnell said.

“It’s just dirt, everything’s brown there’s nothing out there. It makes me sad and I thought what can I do to help.”

The hay runners attracted national attention in the New Year when their 50 kilometre convoy of 138 trailers set a world record.

Once her partner Michael was in agreement to join her Kylie was on the phone to organiser Brendan Farrell committing two trucks to the April run that is expected to deliver more than 120 truck loads of hay to Queensland farmers who suffered through three years of drought.

She has since put out the call for hay and money donations on Facebook.

“They [the Burrumbuttock Hay Run] are doing amazing things for our farmers who are struggling to keep themselves afloat and keep their stock alive,” she posted to the Mudgee Community Facebook page earlier this week.

“I think the Mudgee community could really help. Mick and myself are willing to take two trucks and join forces with the Burrumbuttock Hay Run. For us to take part in this we need your help filling them with our beautiful Mudgee hay.”

Ms McDonnell is accepting donations of both hay and money with collection tins to be available around town.

“Anyone local who wants to help out, we really want hay even if people want to buy hay, a bale or whatever they want to go on our truck,” she said.

“If people want to buy a bale they are available for sale at Price Machinery, Roths Produce and Mick Rogers.

“We’ll take anything smalls, rounds, bigs just no canola or silage.”

Bales can be dropped at Price Farm Machinery, 499 Henry Lawson Drive, Mudgee.
