NEW APPOINTMENT: Phil Pinyon is the interim general manager for Murrumbidgee Shire Council.MURRUMBIDGEE Shire has appointed an interim general manager.
Councillors decided to appoint Phil Pinyon to the role at council’s ordinary meeting on January 20.
Mr Pinyon, who has held positions as general manager at a number of councils in NSW including Wagga, Blue Mountains, Greater Taree, Hornsby and Tamworth, will start as interim general manager on January 27.
Mayor Austin Evans said council’s decision was brought about following the impending departure of council’s acting general manager Kerry McMurray.
Mr McMurray will finish with Murrumbidgee Shire on January 26 to take up a position as director of corporate and commercial services with Kiama Municipal Council.
Murrumbidgee Shire Council mayor Austin Evans said McMurray had been involved in a number of projects during his time with council.
“Kerry has provided valuable assistance to Murrumbidgee Shire in the time he has been with the organisation,” Councillor Evans said.
“Under his guidance, a number of projects have been completed, including the repairs to Anderson Road, Darlington Point and Coleambally swimming pool upgrades, Brolga Place shade sails, upgrades to the Youth Centre shed at Coleambally and Darlington Point hairdresser premises and the refurbishment of the Coleambally netball courts.
“In addition to this, significant planning has been undertaken on a number of other projects of importance to local residents with work to commence in coming months.”
Mr McMurray took up the role with Murrumbidgee Shire in April 2015 to assist council in the development of its Fit for the Future proposal to stand alone as a rural council.
He played a key role in the organisation achieving all of the seven financial benchmarks required as part of this process.
Council’s incumbent mayor, Mathew Glover, submitted his resignation from the organisation earlier this month.
Due to the current merger proposal involving Murrumbidgee Shire, council is not permitted to make a permanent appointment to the GM’s position.
Murrumbidgee Shire Council is discussing a potentialmerger with Jerilderie Shire Council.
